Root Canals Treatments

Teeth Cleaning

Dental root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure used to treat and save a severely damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged or infected pulp (soft tissue) from the tooth’s interior (root canal) and then filling and sealing the tooth to prevent further infection or damage.

Root canal treatment may be necessary if a tooth has:

A deep cavity that has reached the pulp

A cracked or fractured tooth that has reached the pulp

Repeated dental procedures that have damaged the tooth’s pulp

Trauma to the tooth that has caused pulp damage or death

Root Canals Steps

X-rays: First, the dentist will take X-rays to assess the extent of the damage to the tooth and determine if root canal treatment is necessary.

Anesthesia: The dentist will administer local anesthesia to numb the area around the tooth.

Access opening: The dentist will make an access opening in the tooth to reach the root canal.

Pulp removal: The dentist will remove the damaged or infected pulp from the tooth’s root canal using special instruments.

Cleaning and shaping: The dentist will clean and shape the root canal to prepare it for filling.

Filling: The dentist will fill the root canal with a material called gutta-percha to prevent further infection.

Restoration: After the root canal treatment is complete, the dentist will place a filling or crown on the tooth to restore its function and appearance.

Root canal treatment is a common and safe procedure that can save a damaged or infected tooth and prevent the need for extraction. It may take several appointments to complete the treatment, and you may experience some discomfort or sensitivity after the procedure, but these can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and should subside within a few days.
